Art Collides with public space at Sydney Art and About, a month-long festival that celebrates all things Sydney from now till October 24.
The festival brings art, performance and music to Sydney's streets and public spaces such as the
Banner Gallery (featured in main image) that adorns 100 Sydney faces on street banner poles.
According to the events website: "This year we celebrate the Sydney Experience, holding a mirror up to our city and offering a window to the rest of the world, with events, installations and exhibitions that reflect who we are and our place on our planet."
The
Sydney Life outdoor photography exhibition shows the many sides of Sydney through striking large-scale images in the leafy central walkway of Hyde Park.
Even Sydney's historic statue figures such as Queen Victoria and Captain Cook are dressing up and putting on the finery to take part in the
Sydney Statues: Project.
Artists, fashion and costume designers such as Ken Done, Linda Jackson and Bronwyn Bancroft are creating wearable art and a fresh take on historical symbolism.
Discover Sydney's alley's and back lanes with a difference at
Laneway Art where nine contemporary artists have transformed the urban spaces with art installations of projection, light, sound, text and imagery such as 'Woodwork' - giant images of old-fashioned typewriters and telephones.
According to the artist Simon Yates: "Underwood is the name of a famous brand of typewriter manufactured in the early 20th century and used by writers such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and William Faulkner... I am making large photocopies of (the) old fashioned telephones and typewriters. I will include messages hidden in the keyboards of the typewriters and number dials of the phones."
