I'm an avid (albeit amateur) cake decorator and when I moved to Sydney six months ago, I was worried about finding a place to buy my supplies. It needed to be more than just a well-stocked store with reasonably priced cake decorating supplies - I was looking for friendly staff who would have advice, be able to help me find products and make suggestions.
Sweet Deliveries in Rydalmere (5 mins from Parramatta, 10 mins from Ryde) is a cake decorator's dream. Run by a mother and daughter team, they have an excellent range of fondants (Bakels, Cake Ornament Co...), a good stock of cutters and impression mats, a lot of popular brands (like Wilton), food colours, glitters, glosses and even homemade edible decorations for those who don't want to make their own.
But best of all about this store is the time Annie and Sandra have for their customers. They have time to hear about your projects. They have good, practical advice and they also want to see photos of your successes. I've been in the store a few times when customers have come in to collect cakes that the ladies have made, and they've always looked wonderful and had the customer leave with a huge smile on their face.
They also offer a range of classes that are reasonably priced and capped at a small number, so students can be assured they will get a lot of one-on-attention.
I'm moving out of the area next week, but the service here is so good, that it doesn't matter how far I have to travel, I will make an effort to come back to pick up my cake supplies.
