While sushi may not be to everyone's taste - especially if you're not a fan of seafood in any way, shape or form - it's worth remembering that Japanese food does offer a variety of other less "fishy" but equally tasty options.

Nowhere is this more evident than at yah&fb=1&gl=au&hq=sushi yah&hnear=0x6b129838f39a743f:0x3017d681632a850,Sydney, NSW&cid=0,0,17807440374771776015&sa=X&ei=6zzcT-rJIJHyrQe4_pDSDQ&ved=0CAoQ_BIwAw Sushi Yah , located on Yarrara Road, Pennant Hills, conveniently opposite Pennant Hills railway station. Now while Sushi Yah may not be a restaurant for fine dining purists (in fact, it is a simple cafe catering more to take-away customers than eat-in diners), it more than makes up for any perceived lack of ambience with a stellar selection of yummy and beautifully-presented food.

First up is the Japanese culinary staple, edamame. These lightly steamed soy beans come served in a beautiful china boat, sprinkled with sea salt flakes and just waiting to be sucked out of their pods. This is quickly followed with one of our favourites - tempura dumplings - crunchy vegetarian-friendly morsels topped with a drizzle of mayo and crisp green shallots. What's more, beautiful creamy potato croquettes, covered in crunchy panko breadcrumbs, have recently been added to the menu.

All this, and we haven't even touched a piece of fish yet! In fact, for those looking to escape the cold winter weather, a steaming bowl of miso soup - made from soy bean paste and filled with cubes of silken tofu - is a perfect choice.

Still, this being a sushi restaurant, it is impossible not to talk about some of the great seafood on offer as well. Crab claws make for a delicious starter, with crumbed balls of sweet crab meat served on a crab claw handle alongside a sweet chilli dipping sauce. My daughter also loves the grilled salmon sushi, with bite-sized strips of salmon served atop perfectly formed sticky rice logs.

Undoubtedly, the large bento box is a standout, with a selection of tuna, salmon and prawn sushi and sashimi presented on a platter and accompanied with sweet teriyaki chicken and rice; crispy tempura prawn, pumpkin and sweet potato; a bowl of miso soup; and a refreshing daikon radish salad. This is definitely enough for one hungry individual, but can also make a great share plate if you're looking for a bit of everything.

All of this great food comes served with a smile by the friendly owners and wait staff, who pride themselves on the freshness, quality and presentation of their food. But bear in mind, this review only has enough space to cover just a small sampling of what's available at Sushi Yah. The rest you'll have to discover for yourself...
