Japanese Fine Foods
I've written about two sushi bars/restaurants so far (Sushi Train @ Carseldine and Sushi D'Lite @ Chermside), and in both I've mentioned that although I like sushi, I am what I'd call an amateur at sushi-eating. While others may like raw squid, raw salmon and caviar sushi, I prefer to stick to what I know and revel in the more conservative chicken, avocado and cucumber types of this popular Japanese cuisine.
Sushi D'Lite is a franchise that, as far as I know, is located in various parts of Queensland. The good thing about Sushi D'Lite is that it caters for both types of sushi eaters; the exotic and the conservative. Here are some suggestions as to what you can buy/try:
Seaweed Cucumber/Vegetable Roll Tuna Roll Tuna and Avocado Roll Egg Roll/Inari Fillet o' Fish Roll Crumbed Prawn Roll Fried Prawn Roll
• Tempura Prawn Roll
• Prawn and Avocado Roll
• Smoked Salmon and Avocado Roll
• Fresh Salmon Roll
• Sukiyaki Beef Roll
• Crumbed Pork Roll
• Crispy Chicken Roll
• Crumbed Chicken Roll
• Chicken and Avocado Roll
• Teriyaki Chicken Roll
The sushi rolls at Sushi D'Lite range from $2.00 to $2.40 each and are available in the one standard size. My absolute favourite roll is the chicken and avocado and Sushi D'Lite is the only sushi bar I know of that wraps these rolls with creamy mayonnaise.
Usually, sushi bars provide soy sauce, wasabi and mayonnaise for dipping but, with the mayonnaise already wrapped up in the mix, this roll tastes all the better for it. The chicken on this roll is always cooked well but remains soft, the rice is al dente and the avocado is ripe. The mayonnaise brings all ingredients together into creamy goodness. For only $2.20 a roll, this sushi is divine.
I also enjoy the crispy chicken, crumbed chicken, crumbed pork, prawn avocado and plain avocado rolls. The prawn avocado rolls are $2.40 each but are much like the chicken avocado rolls, save the main meaty ingredient. Apart from the obvious, Sushi D'Lite also makes traditional Japanese foods like Udon Noodles, Teriyaki Chicken and Japanese Curry (made with your choice of either chicken or pork) and sells sweet Pokka ice tea (lychee, peach, lemon, mango and blueberry) which I enjoy. The usual 600ml soft drinks are also available for purchase behind the counter.
Sushi D'Lite at North Lakes is located within Westfield Shopping Centre at the entrance leading to Donut King and Coles. Sushi D'Lite is quite a busy little sushi bar, with many of the more popular sushi rolls selling out by lunch time and again at closing. Sushi D'Lite is open during Westfield's normal business hours.
