From the 26th to the 28th of February, the eyes of the world will be on
Phillip Island, as it plays host to the first round of the 2010
Superbike World Championship.
The island's famous 4.5 kilometre coastal
circuit boasts an exciting blend of straights and corners, and is considered to be one of the world's great tracks.
Twenty-six riders will be competing for sixteen teams, including the Australians
Troy Corser,
Chris Vermeulen,
Andrew Pitt, as well as foreign raiders such as
Noriyuki Haga,
James Toseland,
Ben Spies,
Carlos Checa,
Michel Fabrizio,
Max Biaggi and
Jonathan Rea.
There's a wide range of
ticketing and accommodation options, but anyone looking for the most fun and best value will make a long weekend of it. By pre-purchasing a three day pass, you gain access to the World Superbike Paddock on Friday, where from 8.30am to 1pm you can meet and get autographs from some of the stars. That's followed by qualifying on Saturday and the big race on Sunday. Plus, there'll be other racing to enjoy, like the
Australian Superbike Championship and the Historics.
The place to stay is definitely at the track's campground. An entertaining
program will be on offer, which includes a bike expo, live music and late-night bar hours. Plus, you'll get to party with thousands of other rev-heads. Just don't expect to get too much sleep.
