I'm a freelance writer living on the south side of Brisbane, often found hurriedly scrawling in a notebook at the table of some random coffee house.
Event: 04/11/2011 - 06/11/2011
It's that time of year again!

Time for capital cities around Australia to fill up with aliens, animals and supernatural spectres. But don't worry, they're only costumes! Within these creative and adventurous outfits reside the dedicated fans of Supanova and every pop culture icon said expo represents.

Anything from science-fiction, pulp TV/movies, toys, console gaming, trading cards, animation/cartoons, fantasy, comic books, entertainment technology, books, internet sites and fan-clubs are celebrated at Supanova. This is the perfect environment to exercise your right to release your inner-geek and get into some serious cosplaying (costume role-play).

This years expo features guest speakers such as actors Christopher Lloyd, Val Kilmer, Colin Morgan and Evanna Lynch, authors Kylie Chan, Ian Irvine, Keri Arthur and many, many more.
Aspiring artists and writers will have ample opportunity to have one-on-one talks with the Australian and international authors while having access to some of the biggest comic publishers on the planet who set up stalls as well.

Supanova exhibitors offer a huge range of the best quality merchandise from the world over and an especially diverse range of imports direct from Japan and America. Don't worry about losing energy through out your explorations, either, as there is all the food you can want from a full meal, to a light snack or maybe just some lollies to give you a sugar rush for the rest of the day.

Luckily, there is food-a-plenty at Supanova, and trust me, you will need the energy for all the games, activities and author seminars that run over the three days. If Anime is your forte, you can choose to partake in the game of Anime Taboo - a spin-of of the Hasbro game Taboo - or an Anime dubbing session. There is also an abundance of gaming options, including card, table top and video, exclusive screenings, karaoke, laser tag, wrestling and for the especially dedicated writers, plenty of chances to get involved in master classes.

For those of us who are looking at a more thrifty time spent immersed in the world of the geek, there are heaps of free fan clubs, costumers guilds, groups and societies at which you can meet like-minded people and get some great pictures with the friendly costumed folk that hang around during the expo.

If you don't want to miss out on up-to-the-minute video game previews, antique toy collectors and inspiring artists and actors from around the world, the show-floor of Supanova is a wonderful place to be.
