I grew up just north of Byron Bay, spending more time in the water than on land! There was so much to do at the beach and it was easy to get access to all the best water sports. These days I find myself getting so busy with my Sydney life that it can be hard to get out and find fun activities to do with my friends and family!

That's why I decided to write an article on the because stand up paddle boarding (also known as SUP) is heaps of fun for the whole family and is really safe!

It's also great for the outdoorsy type looking for some fun exercise, as its great for building core muscle strength!

If you haven't tried it, you should get your butt down to one of these three awesome beginner friendly SUP locations.

**1. Manly Cove Standup Paddle Boarding

Why it's a hot spot:
**
Manly Cove paddle boarding has it all. There isn't a more beautiful spot than paddling your way out into Sydney Harbour watching the ferries go by. With it's ferry port, beautiful waterfront surroundings and plenty of great spots to have a picnic it's a sensational spot to hang out with mates or family whilst showing off your new found stand up paddle boarding skills! The Manly Kayak centre is cool they have SUP yoga and even ball games on the paddle boards. Check it out!

Price:

1 hour $25 and $2 hours $40. www.manlykayakcentre.com.au

**Parking:
**
Parking can be tricky in Manly because it is such a popular destination but you can find 2 hour parking on the East Esplanade hill or along Victoria Parade and Ashburner Street.

**2. Balmoral Boatshed Standup Paddle Boarding

Why it's a hot spot: **

Balmoral is a great family friendly beach with no waves and it has nets for swimming. There are plenty of picnic facilities, clean toilets and bathrooms to get changed. There is also a great fish and chip café called Bottom of the Harbour to get a bite after your SUP sesh!

Price:

$30 per hour. http://balmoralboatshed.com.au/paddle-board-hire/

Parking:

There is 2 hour free street parking around the area but it's a short walk to the boat shed for the paddle boarding. If you're a family I recommend paying for parking. It'll cost around $10 - $15.

**3. Narrabeen Lake Stand Up Paddle Boarding (ProKayaks)

Why it's a hot spot: **

Narrabeen Lake is family friendly, fun and a great spot to take the whole family or hang out with a group of mates to have a picnic and a paddle. The scenery is magical with the lakes surrounded by picturesque parkland and has little islands to paddle around. You won't be disappointed!

Price:

$20 for 1 hour and $35 for 2 hours www.prokayaks.com.au .

Parking:

ProKayaks has it's own parking lot which is really convenient and is just off Narrabeen Street.
