St. Kilda Openair Cinema returns this Summer with an impressive film program.

The event will kick off with a special opening night charity event on December 11, 2011. Opening night will feature live music performances from Kate Miller-Heidke and Hungry Kids of Hungary. The opening feature film is the documentary Life in a Day. Given this event is sponsored by Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream, free ice cream will be provided to all on opening night.

Then the fun begins.

The film line up for the Summer 2011/2012 season includes the acclaimed Drive, the crowd pleaser Crazy, Stupid, Love, the delightful Midnight in Paris, the thriller In Time, the surprise hit of 2011 Red Dog, the critic's favourite Warrior, the fascinating documentary Project Nim, the 2011 remake of Footloose, the cult classic The Goonies, the drama Higher Ground, the 'family comedy' Our Idiot Brother, the thought-provoking Anonymous, the psychological drama The Hunter and the feel good film Moneyball. Check out the full 2011/2012 St. Kilda Openair Cinema film program here.

The St. Kilda Openair Cinema is located at the Sea Baths on the Esplanade in St Kilda, which is easily located by public transport; see here for details.

The outdoor cinema screenings are ticketed events; prices start from $20.00 - which includes deck chair hire, or you can opt for a Star Class ticket, priced at $36.00, which includes bean bag or deck chair hire, reserved seating and complimentary Henkell sparkling wine on arrival. You can purchase tickets online or at the venue.

what a terrible movie experience. wonderful setting overlooking the beach, we were really looking forward to a great night of openair cinema. After fifteen minutes we have been the third couple that left - sitting not in the first third of the rooftop you could hardly understand a word, in the last third you did not understand anything. Two speaker that seem to run a 50Watt stereo system simple cann not run the show. Watching an illegal download on an android propably is more of an movie experience. Waste of money, not recommended!

Wonderful. Open air cinemas are the best. Its a lovely place to sit back and take in the bay, the evening sky and a movie.
