A series of
free Christmas family events will kick off at Federation Square on
Thursday December 1st and will run right through to
December 25th, 2011. Under the banner of '
Spirit of the Square' this year's events program will include live music performances featuring local musicians and community choirs, free Christmas film screenings on the Fed Sq Big Screen, family photography opportunities and much more.
Some highlights of this year's free events program include;
Community Choirs performing daily at The Atrium and Upper Square throughout the Spirit of the Square season. Some of the participants for this year's event include Hearts in Harmony Community Choir,
Tongue and Groove Vocal Music Group,
Gruppo Culturale Italiano Inc,
Sweet Monas Choir,
Brimbank Multicultural Community Choir,
Sevdalinka Choir and many more. It is also worth noting that
The Salvos will also be performing daily at St Paul's Court. View the Community Choir performance schedule at the Federation Square
website.
Christmas Films will screen on the Big Screen during the month of December. The film titles are yet to be announced but expect classic Christmas film favourites such as
Home Alone, Elf and
The Grinch to be part of the film program. Feature Films usually screen on the Big Screen from 6pm. Check the Fed TV daily schedule on the Federation Square
website for all the latest on the screening schedule.
Family Portraits will take place every Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the Main Square. This special event is entirely free; a professional photographer will take the family portrait, and your photo will be available for download for free from The Projects
website.
Hide and Seek is just for the kids. The Fed Sq Main Square will have an installation of 150 Christmas Trees, which will be known as The Pines, a project developed by Federation Square and
The Projects. In this space, children will be encouraged to play hide and seek. Plus there will be other events taking place in
The Pines, such as
Lost in the Woods, which is a maze designed for children.

Headbelly Buzzard and special guests. The live music events will run until 10:30pm.
Outside the Square is another event presented by
The Projects. This event will see artists design and print a range of street posters, which will exhibited at

The Main Square will also play host to the
Christmas Day Picnic. This event will be held on
Sunday 25th of December from 12:30pm. This free event is open to all and attendees are encouraged to bring along a picnic hamper. Registration is required to attend this event; see The Projects
