SpellBox. This hidden artefact of a store is located in one of Melbourne's tucked away shopping arcades, the Royal Arcade. The store offers a variety of mystical goods ranging from long taper candles in a variety of colours to more unusual findings such as talismans and spell boxes. For example, a Success Spell box contains rose water, incense, spell paper, and other magical ingredients. Pictures of the spell boxes and their contents can be found on the SpellBox's website.

While the store may not be to everyone's particular taste of brew, it is worth a look in for its visual intensity. The clientele include practicing Wiccans, locals after a nice batch of incense to improve the smell of their apartments, and tourists after some unique gifts to take home. Perhaps one's interests lie in knowing the future; SpellBox offers fortuning telling services for $50 for half an hour or $90 for an hour. Whether believers, or not, appointments do fill up, so if you're needing some insight into your career or love life this may be worth the fee.

More than just a store, SpellBox also offers birthday celebrations for children and/or adults. Children and adults experience a '
magickal' experience that involves a spell, psychic reading, a gift, sweets and beverages (mulled wine or champagne for the adults). Many children have fantasy themed parties, but a celebration at SpellBox would likely appeal to modern day tots. Following the popularity of the Harry Potter films and books, what little girl would not want to be a witch like Hermione?

The store is in fitting character amongst the Royal Arcade's trappings of fine checkerboard stone floors and high arched ceilings. Wander nearby for sweet treats or if Russian dolls tickle your fancy, the charming and novel can be found all in one spot. SpellBox has two locations, one in the formerly mentioned Royal Arcade, and one on Little Bourke Street, which is referred to as 'The Witch's House'. Be careful though, the atmosphere may just cast a spell on the unsuspecting visitor.
