Hidden away at the end of South Terrace in South Fremantle, you'll find South Beach Tacos – home of the All You Can Eat Tacos on Tuesday nights.

My husband and I stopped by for lunch one Sunday afternoon to try out the tacos and to decide if we would later return to have 'all you can eat'. We've driven past plenty of times but have never been in, so this was our first visit.

South Beach Tacos is a little bit quirkier than your average Mexican eatery. For a start, it's dog-friendly. So dog-friendly, they offer a $6 dog's omelette with kangaroo. It must be a popular concept as there was a couple seated with their pooch in tow.

Secondly, unlike most local Mexican restaurants, they also offer breakfast and brunch. Think rancheros, a breakfast burrito or tacos with chorizo and potato. Sure beats soggy Weetbix.

We were seated quickly and our little girl seated in a high chair. It was a rather drab afternoon to be out and the restaurant wasn't busy so we ordered within minutes. It was a difficult choice between the chicken tacos and the grilled chicken naked burrito, but my husband opted for the steak tacos so the burrito it was. They also have a 'wet burrito', which is a regular burrito, but covered in Mexican sauce.

The menu is reasonably priced and has a large selection of authentic Mexican dishes, including fajitas, quesadillas and enchiladas. We were presented with a small serve of complimentary corn chips and spicy dips while we waited for the mains, which didn't take too long to arrive.

The burrito was huge – the kind of huge that makes you need to take a nap when you get home. And, I didn't even finish it all. The burrito wrap was huge in size but light, while the shredded chicken was zesty and the rice slightly spicy. There was a bit too much refried bean in the taco but that didn't ruin the taste. It was a little over $16, but I thought the price was justifiable.

My husband had finished his tacos before I'd barely taken a bite of the giant burrito. That's not to say they weren't generous in size – each soft taco shell (there are two tacos in serving) has just enough slightly tangy meat and a little bit of relish.

At a little under $18 for two, they were probably above average for the price of tacos, but I can see why the Tuesday night All You Can Eat Tacos is such a great deal at $19. The chicken taco and the beer battered fish taco come in slightly cheaper.

They don't sell alcoholic beverages, but you can try some Aguas Frescas, which is homemade hibiscus tea, Jarritos Mexican Soda and Mexican Coke, plus all the usual soft drinks and sodas.

So will we be back? You bet – our experience at South Beach Tacos was one of good Mexican food, friendly service and even dog-friendlier dining. It's open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner and coffee and of course – All You Can Eat Tacos on a Tuesday night.
