South Bank Lifestyle Market

Published August 14th 2009
The vibrant South Bank Lifestyle Market is Brisbane’s only three day market with a kick off on Friday night before winding down to a more casual occasion on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the website, stalls are always changing and updating their materials to keep up with an:

"exciting range of arts, craft, homewares, collectibles, exotic items, designer fashion and much more. The markets are an ideal way to find a unique gift, or simply stroll through and enjoy the atmosphere."

The Stanley Street Plaza really comes alive on Friday, it’s a great place to meet up with friends with nearby bars, pubs, cafes, restaurants and cinemas open all around the market, not to mention the parks and riverside view of the glowing city.

Even if you’re strapped for cash, this market has a great atmosphere no matter what day or time you attend.

Getting to the markets is easy, Translink has a range of buses and ferries from all around Brisbane going directly to South Bank. For those out of town, the trains can deliver them straight to the market at South Bank Station.

For those coming from the CBD, Stanley Street Plaza is only stone’s throw over the Brisbane River, just use the Wheel of Brisbane as a guiding star - the markets are just 100 meters away.

Besides the usual three day market there are constant special events, such as the Young Designers Market, Kids, Mums and Bubs Market, Wine and Growers Market and the Regional Flavours Market.

I went to this market a weeks ago and it was the best thing to do since we had nothing else going on, but I am very glad I went. There were so many things to choose from and so many home made and natural appliances, clothes, accessories and some dry fruit sticky things which were delicious.

I ended up buying something from China which two young people were selling, and they were excellent sales people they could rave on and on without making any mistakes and they ended up convincing me to buy them. It is two candles which have a light in the middle instead of the wick, and because it is a platsic tube in the middle of the wax, it lights up into different colours and it is a wonderful gift and something to have in your room and light up for fun to watch your room change colours from the light.
