These days it is relatively easy to enjoy a social dining experience as a vegetarian. A quick scan of the menu at most of the cafes in the city pocket will reveal that beloved 'v' symbol that every Perth vegetarian relishes. However it can be slightly more difficult to cater to the needs of vegans and those amongst us who suffer from gluten intolerance; who often find ourselves confined to salads from the starter menus.

Highgate offers a solution to this problem in the form of Source Foods. Located on the corner of Beaufort street, this neat little cafe boasts a menu that is likely to suit the tastes of your entire party; crunchy granola types to carnivores alike. Almost every option on the menu is available as a vegetarian, vegan or gluten free option.

For all intents and purposes, Source is just another cafe in Northbridge. Unassuming but clean interior, friendly and relaxed cafe atmosphere. The only difference here is the menu philosophy. The cafe is committed to serving up sustainable foods. It is guilt free eating for both the waistline and the mind.

Customers can enjoy a carefully selected and artfully prepared range of dishes for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. The breakfast menu boasts traditional favourites such as muffins, croissants and scrambled eggs with the added goodness of whole grains and organic fruit. If you're worried about tasting the health in your meal; don't be. The kitchen at Source seem to know what they're doing when it comes to dressing up a flawlessly healthy meal with flavours and tastes so familiar to you that it is easy to forget that you're eating well.

The Lunch menu is where source really shines. There are constant offerings for the meat eaters in the way of organic beef, local rainbow trout and free range chicken. The nachos, quesadillas and various clever uses of tempeh will leave you stuffed in the best possible way, as will the selection of handmade soups, dips, toppings and dressings. There is a new satisfaction to be found in devouring a large meal and being completely satisfied and full, without that sluggish or bloated feeling.

Source is a great place for avid meat eaters and "rabbit food" nay sayers to put real, abundant and fresh vegetarian food to the test. It is almost guaranteed that you will walk away from the experience completely satisfied with a mind to return for more.
