Could a disability tear up your love for the water?

Bethany Hamilton had a dream. To surf was her way of life.
She had skill, she had heart and she had drive. With an attitude like this, she was bound to flip vast impossibility into possibility. She wanted to compete, break records and be the best of the best. Period.

This true story depicts the life of professional surfer; Bethany Hamilton. Viewers are taken on what seems like an epic adventure ride as they see Bethany riding the Hawaiian waves head on, only to witness the miraculous survival of a young girl after a shark attack just minutes later.

So what can one do when fate decides to stick its nose in someone else's business?

It meddles with the passion and with the dream.

It sweeps aside and delays a person's rapid climb to the top.

Prior to this, Bethany lived life on the edge. It was pure bliss. Surfing was somewhat her be all and end all. She knew nothing else that mattered even a fraction more than the ocean to her. But she had to learn to do things differently – the changes awaiting her were going to be immense.

Now with only one arm; Bethany's fear of failure, of not being able to go about life's daily chores nor having the physicality to surf again made her tick. After the nightmares, the feelings of hopelessness and puzzlement with God's plan for her, inspiration finally hit home. With the help and support of her loved ones, Bethany grows hungry to find a new perspective on life.

During a bumpy ride of this sort; what happens to a go-getter whose dream is suddenly cut short?

This up and coming surfer; now with only one arm threw herself back in, starting slow but eventually making her way to the top again. Her big heart, willpower and supportive family and friends gave her the push that she needed – the push to try, to fight, adapt and get her life back on track again as it were once upon a time.

Would you give up all hope or summon up the courage to continue doing what you love doing despite the circumstances? I would hope that travelling the easy road wouldn't be option number one – in other words; giving up.

I've always been a fan of factual-based Hollywood flicks and this is yet another one to top the list. It had a brilliant ending as the credits rolled with captures of the real Bethany Hamilton today, doing what she does best.

We can all learn a little something or two from Bethany's inspiring story – a champion never says never, that's for sure.
