I'm a proud Adelaidean with a healthy obsession with live music and performance, red wine and Mexican food.

Have you been struggling to find a way to entertain the kids which doesn't involve a TV? Are you afraid they spend more quality time with the x-box controller than with you? The Adelaide Festival Centre has heard your cry for help, and they've answered with their own SoS - Something on Saturday.

Something on Saturday is a family friendly program run (generally) each Saturday of the month, for around 5 months each year. It's a chance for parents and kids aged 3 - 10 to do something together, that's fun for everyone.

Something on Saturday's fresh and exciting program includes a weekly paid performance, with shows ranging from musical theatre, dance, magic and puppetry - plus everything you could dream of in between.

There's even a free craft workshop you can get messy in, before and/or after the show. If you don't have the time to stick around for the show, you don't have to. The workshop is free for everyone and there's no need to make a booking in advance.

It's affordable and easy (two words you don't hear that often in relation to children). Something on Saturday is a great chance for kids to make new friends, and for parents to enjoy the company of their little ones in a safe environment which encourages creativity and laughter.

There's still 12 shows left before the end of the season so make sure to check them out. The Amazing Drumming Monkeys are a "don't miss" (they wowed adults and kids alike at this year's WOMAD festival), and get in quick for a ticket to Cosentino, an illusionist sure to dazzle and amaze. Then there's broadway, bubbles and Bollywood too.

Visit the Something on Saturday website to find out more, order program brochures and download free activity sheets to keep you entertained from Sunday to Friday when you're not seeing a great show or making a magician's hat.
