If you love eating out then if you're probably like me, always looking for places that offer good food at great prices. Everyone is writing about the 'next best place for a meal', but this can change as fast as the next 'new menu'.

Instead, I'm going to share with you some more consistent and regular ways to help you to save on your 'dining dollars' around Brisbane.

Firstly, are you an RACQ member and do you have a VISA card? If so, this is a combination you can use to get 'best bang for your buck'.

Cash-back Dining
With the RACQ program called Dining Rewards , you can eat out and 'earn cash-backs' in percentages between 10 to 20% by using your VISA card. Kind of like a loyalty programme.

Places that you can expect to benefit with Dining Reward' include;
  • 10% cash-back at URBANE in Mary Street
  • 10% cash-back at Outback Jack locations (including Redcliffe and the Gold Coast)
  • 20% cash-back at Fasta Pasta locations. Great for families or for a quick meal anytime
  • 10% to 20% cash back depending on the days you dine at the Crown Hotel (Lutwyche)
  • 10% cash-back at Shingle Inn locations around Brisbane. As a favourite they have beautiful simple meals, as well as coffees/teas and great cakes.
    There are currently 53 places around Brisbane under this program, (more, if you include Queensland). Search out your own tastes in the RACQ dining section. NOTE: you need to register and check the days and times of each participating place for 'your cash-back times'

  • Other regular ways of eating out cheaply;
    Your local Pub
    Pubs are known for regularly offering either 2 for 1 meal deals, discount days or even a 'deal a day'. Good pubs usually provide great food and atmosphere. Give your three closest locals a call to find out what their 'deal days' are. Our local pub, the Waterloo Hotel is fabulous. It's on Ann Street, Fortitude Valley and offers a cosy atmosphere and terrific meals. Visit during their extended lunchtime period between 11am to 5.30pm and you can eat a fabulous meal for $10 to $12. View the current Waterloo Hotel menu here.
    Shafston Hotel - 3 Lytton Road, East Brisbane is another great pub offering good value meals.
    Current examples of what they offer include;
  • Mondays $10 Steak Meal
  • Thursdays 2 for 1 meals.
  • Other days $15 meal options. Check it all out here

  • Time for Thai.
    Most Thai Restaurants have 'good value meals' ranging from $13 to $17 depending if you are vegetarian or a meat eater. The way to 'save' here is to consider ordering one main meal and one entrée between the two of you. Often this is enough and you can always get 'more rice'. Sharing your meal would save you around $10 - $12 dollars in total.

    Everyone usually knows of their local Thai restaurant, however here are two Thai restaurants about town worth mentioning.
    Ruean Place Commercial Road Newstead. A small but cosy restaurant with consistently great tasting flavours.
    Thai Temple at Milton. Located in a lovely serene garden out at the back of the restaurant, it is pleasant here and they do have a large selection of $12.90 lunch specials.
    Mex it out to the Max by eating at one of the Salsa brand restaurants around Brisbane. They are great for getting some fresh mex goodness and value. Basic Burritos for under $10, moving up to $12 for a bit more. For 2 tacos $8 and 3 for $11.50. These prices are all day everyday. There is much more on the menu and it's all good value with most stuff under $15.
    They are in town at Gasworks and also plenty of other suburbs. Check for the closest #find_us ">Salsa to you here .

    Eat like Mexican on Tuesdays at 'the groovy colourful Beach Burrito Company , Westend, where they have $3 tacos.

    Go Greek by grabbing a traditional meal for $15 at the 'Go Greek Café' 330 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley. Smaller options available as well as other meals (slightly more $). Salads are available for under $10. During your lunch break you can get a tasty wrap with a free drink for $11. Check the 'Go Greek' menu here.

    A side with that - and enjoy.
