What's free, fabulous and fascinating in April?

SLiQ flicks at the State Library of Queensland.

Head to the State Library every Sunday at 2pm to watch a free film. April offers a line-up of fantastic films that delves into the new world of technology in order to complement the Experimenta Speak to Me exhibition. These films explore how technology has changed and affected us, and we relate to each other.

The best thing about these flicks is that it's all free, no bookings are required and there's a great selection of movies. So all you need to do is just show up and enjoy!

[SECTION]Sunday 6 April: Upstream Color[/SECTION]



Upstream Color is a story about two strangers falling in love. As they grow closer, the mystery of what brought them together in the first place slowly reveals itself. It's poetic, baffling and enveloping.

[SECTION]Sunday 13 April: Cosmopolis[/SECTION]



An adaptation of author Don DeLillo's novel Cosomopolis by the well-known director David Cronenberg, this drama thriller film takes the audience on the journey of a 28 year-old finance golden boy, Eric Packer. It all begins as he travels across midtown Manhattan in order to get a haircut.

[SECTION]Sunday 20 April: Antiviral[/SECTION]



Antiviral is set in the near future, a time where sharing the same diseases with celebrities is the new status symbol. Syd March, an employee at the clinic that sells viruses harvested from celebrities, is the go-to person for these live viruses. However, when he becomes infected with the same virus as superstar Hannah Geist, he resolves to find out the truth about Hannah's death in order to save his own life.

Videodrome

Max Renn, a sleazy cable TV programmer, discovers an underground program called "Videodrome" and becomes intrigued by it. However, it's not just a TV show. In actual fact, a deadly virus is transmitted through televised transmissions altering reality through video hallucination and permanently giving the viewer brain tumour.

THX 1138

THX 1138 is set in the computer-controlled future where drugs are mandatory and sexual intercourse is prohibited. Factory worker THX 1138 decides to stop taking the drugs and falls in love with his roommate who then becomes pregnant. They are both imprisoned and soon begin to plan their escape.
