It's up, up and away (well, not literally away), but definitely up – 88 floors up to be exact. It's all aboard a lift that will zoom you up to an awe-inspiring view of Melbourne from the Southern Hemisphere's highest viewing platform.
Skydeck 88 at the top of the
Eureka Tower is something else.
The view from the Skydeck is indeed inspiring – and confirms that we live in one of the best cities in the world.
The experience doesn't stop there, however. For a few
extra dollars, you can live life on the edge (literally) and enter
The Edge - if you dare.
This glass cube slides three metres out from the building, suspending itself (and you, if you managed to conquer your fears) 300 metres above ground. Hair-raising, but exhilarating. It's not often you literally get to hang around Melbourne.
More grounded experiences, if you can call them that when you're 88 floors up, are the various family friendly
activities on offer. The interactive displays, like the 6-metre long Table of Knowledge, give you a different view of Melbourne and all of its fabulous landmarks.
To help get you in the mood, take this
virtual tour. Be prepared though. The cyberspace version leaves me feeling a little queasy, while the real experience didn't at all.
Skydeck 88, one of our city's newest attractions, also hosts various special experiences and events. Check them out
here.
