The Sunshine Coast gives us infinite opportunities for things to do. We've got our pristine beaches, our little country towns in the hinterland, bushwalking in the National Parks - all activities, I'm sure you've heard of and perhaps even done. But, did you realise that even if you know our region inside out, there might be a few undiscovered secrets, just waiting for you? So, here's my list of unusual things you can do to spice up your life on the Sunshine Coast.

1. A Set Adrift - HAS PERMANENTLY CLOSED
0439 381 114

Set sail with A Set Adrift on a twenty-seater catamaran yacht that departs from The Mooloolaba Yacht Club . This exciting sea-faring adventure runs on a monthly basis and is available for private parties and events.

Appreciate live original music on the deck from the comfort of a bean bag, with a beer from 4 Pines Brewery and a platter of antipasto.

Tickets are priced between $50 and $70 depending on which live band is performing and include:-

  • Two-hour yacht cruise around Mooloolaba;
  • A seventy-five minute set from an original nationally touring artist;
  • Antipasto platter - share plates;
  • Two complimentary beverages from 4 Pines Brewery.

  • The yacht is also BYO, so you are welcome to bring your own drinks and eskys are provided.

    Don't forget to pack your swimmers or togs for a mid-performance dip!

    2. Blast Aqua Park
    60 Junction Drive, Coolum

    I bet you didn't realise that the world's (might be a slight exaggeration) largest Aqua Park is right here on the Sunshine Coast in Coolum. This incredible Aqua Park covers a big area, approximately one hundred metres by seventy metres and boasts a wide selection of inflatables, suitable for ages 6 to 100 (Ages 3 to 6 may use the park but must be accompanied by a parent at all times).

    There are slides, jumping pillows, trampolines, swings, challenge tracks, balance beams, wobble pads and chill-out areas within the extensive walkways and floating tracks on the course.

    On shore, you'll find shade structures with free BBQ areas (bring your own BBQ utensils), change rooms, picnic benches and sun loungers. A cafe with coffee is also available while you enjoy the shaded, white sandy beaches.

    Blast Aqua Park is available for the day or just a few hours; for a party celebration and for groups, large or small.

    A great spot for children to have their birthday parties, click here for more information.

    Aqua Park Sessions start on the hour every hour and it's recommended that fun-lovers arrive thirty minutes before their session starts for the signing-in process and the safety briefing.

    Prices -

    1 x Fifty minute session - R25 per person;
    2 x Fifty minute sessions - $40 per person;
    All Day Pass - $60; and
    Spectators - FREE

    3. Open-Air Movie Nights
    Starry Nights Outdoor Movies

    Ok, I might have already let the cat out of the bag on this one, when I wrote about Friday Night Flicks earlier this month, but how cool is an outdoor cinema!

    With upcoming dates of 31 March and 28 April at the luxurious Novotel Twin Waters Resort, this pop-up cinema is hosted poolside, with live musicians for pre-movie entertainment. Add to that, popcorn, pizzas and a starry, starry night and your TV-watching Friday nights will soon become a thing of the past.
