Lavishly decorated with European styled adornments and capturing a blend of classic wooden and a contemporary fused theme, Sir Braxton offers delicate desserts and hearty meals for all ages. Located on Bryant St of Rockdale, Sydney's South-west, the newly opened chocolate bar takes over and adds a subtle touch of elegance to the restaurants of Rockdale. The menu ranges from decadent desserts, fruity and sweet milkshakes to the availability of savoury dishes. Opened at early as 7am, the lunch/dinner menu is available at 11.30am and for those brekkie lovers, Sir Braxton serves breakfast all day!

Arriving at 11am, the server kindly showed us to our table and was glad to wait for the latecomers. Ordering both from the breakfast menu and dessert menu, we chose the Eggs Benedict, Baked Sir Sujuk, Chocolate Addict (chocolate cake and ice cream) and a chocolate thickshake. Sound like typical dishes on a menu? Yes, to be frank. However, the presentation has an aesthetically pleasing appearance that will excite you; to the point where I did not want to press my fork into my dish!

The 'Chocolate Addict' dish was most impressive as it took up 'Heston Blumenthal' techniques in which the dish has a syringe for you to insert chocolate syrup into the chocolate cake. From first impression, this might seem to be redundant but it's quite fun to be pushing the chocolate into the dessert; this will definitely excite the kids. There are also cool dishes such as the Chocolate Pasta and Chocolate Nachos! The Baked Sir Sujuk was delicious. The perfect balance of spice in the sujuk with the gooeyness of the baked egg and crunchiness of the bread was quite good. My companion had some trouble finishing the Eggs Benedict but did compliment on how 'well-done' the eggs were. And of course, the chocolate thickshake was creamy and sweet, as expected.

Albeit the kind service from the servers was admirable, waiting for our dishes took longer than most restaurants. It was not the longest wait and the restaurant did not have many customers so perhaps the demand for quick service was not as paramount than as on a busy day. According to one of the one star reviews that complained on waiting for almost an hour on their Facebook page, they responded: 'We apologise for your wait but our meals are made from scratch which takes time (normally 20 minutes when we are not full house)'

Depending on the situation and how much time you've got on your hands, if quality of the food is most important, then the wait might just be worth it.

The chocolate bar is located on the corner of Bryant Street and though it has the benefit of easy visibility, parking may be an issue, especially for dinner on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night. If parking becomes troublesome, try York St Car Park (52 York St, Rockdale, 64 spaces) or Bryant Lane (corner of York St and Bryant Lane, 15 spaces) and from there, the walk is quick. Taking the train to Rockdale Station and walking to the venue will only be 6 minutes, which is another efficient path.

The last time I dined at Sir Braxton, it was identical to the recent experience except that it was during the night. Service was superb, waiting took long enough to notice and most food was delicious. A friend ordered strawberries on the side of her dessert dish, and when the side came, there was only one strawberry that was cut into fours and presented as if the quantity appeared large, at the price of $2.50. Some dishes are overpriced, it depends on the dish but the portion is quite large and can be shared with another person (or not!).

Overall, dining at Sir Braxton was enjoyable, food was scrumptious and hearty, waiters were polite and there was a comfortable atmosphere! The general experience will differ for every person, it depends on preferences.

ALTERNATIVE: Dine at Bay Vista (a praised dessert place) in Brighton Le Sands (minutes away from Rockdale, driving distance) and walk on Brighton Beach

TIPS: Arrive early on weekends for parking availability

Most or all dishes are Halal, if unsure, ask server
