South Africans traditionally bring their babies up on Rooibos (Red Bush) Tea - it's a wonderful cure-all for colic, sleeplessness and boosting one's immune system - even my Grandson, a true-blue Aussie was given it virtually from birth and has always loved it.



Gina da Silva, the Tea Master of Silva Spoon , grew up in South Africa and so in keeping with traditions, was brought up on Rooibos Tea, perhaps the inspiration for her onward journey. Gina is a certified Tea Sommelier, having graduated from an intense study program at The Australian Tea Masters Association, learning about tea's complex background, how to process tea in a multitude of ways, as well as the health benefits of drinking tea.



And so, Silva Spoon was created - a sophisticated, unique establishment run by the Da Silva family offering one hundred varieties of tea, perfect for high teas, baby showers or just to 'get-together'. Coffee drinkers don't get forgotten either with an amazing selection of South American coffee beans from Costa Rica, Panama and Brazil. Silva Spoon's coffee beans are freshly roasted twice a week and can be ground to your liking for either an Espresso machine, plunger or drip filter.



Having recently received the much-coveted accolade for the best tea house in Queensland in the Australian Tea Industry's Golden Leaf Awards, one can understand why this relaxed, elegant venue with an eclectic array of giftware for the discerning shopper, is so popular with locals and tourists alike.



With a decadent diversity of fresh daily baked cakes and scones, my girlfriend and I chose a slice each, to share, of course ('do I really have to?') The Date and Pecan Banana Bread and Caramel Almond Blondie were both moist, fresh and decidedly more-ish, delivering my sugar hit for the day!
