Have a drive up to the Northern suburb of WA/@-31.6150497,115.6633455,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x2bcd580144fe4053:0x504f0b535df3dd0LINK Alkimos , there you will find a newly developed Waterfront Park in the Shorehaven estate. Bring a picnic, cook on the barbecues, relax on the sun loungers or dip your feet in the ocean.

You can enjoy ocean views from the benches and watch your kids play in the beautiful white sand. The Alkimos ship wreck can also be seen from the beach, a piece of history that is well worth researching . It may entice you in for a mysterious look around. Although it might be tempting to swim or kayak out to the shipwreck, submerged rocks make it dangerous to swim in this area. You can walk 50m North of the beach for safer swimming.

If you're like me and don't like the sand between your toes, you can wash off in the beach showers provided. For people who dislike the beach, a huge oval is provided. I couldn't resist walking on the lush grass. An ideal place for the kids to run around, play sports, fly a kite or fetch a blanket and picnic on the lawn.

Work is still underway on the new beach cafe that is due to open late 2015. It's located next to the car park and will provide views of the stunning new beach front development.

Please note the barbecues were not operating the day i visited, so don't be disappointed, best to bring your own stove, just in case.
