Shingle Inn

Home > Things to do in Brisbane > Restaurants
Published December 13th 2010
A visit to the Shingle Inn is like stepping back into olden day Brisbane, when women wore gloves and men wore hats and everyone dressed up if they were heading into town.

The Shingle Inn was established in 1936 and despite becoming a successful franchise with a dozen locations in south east Queensland and northern New South Wales, it remains a family owned business.

The cafe's menu lists breakfast, light meals, salads and gourmet sandwiches but the Shingle Inn bakery is the star of the show. Patrons come to enjoy a coffee and a selection from the individual sweet treats (lamingtons, scones, freshly made biscuits and cupcakes) and decadent desserts (meringues, tortes, carrot cake and rocky road cheesecake, to name a few), which are consumed in the old fashioned, chintz upholstered booths.

The Shingle Inn is a Brisbane favourite that has stood the test of time. See the website for locations and trading hours.
