One of Australia's most celebrated and successful films SHINE has been newly re-mastered digitally, and is bound to recapture the imagination of its original audiences as well as win over a whole new generation.
A special 20th Anniversary screening of SHINE will be held at The Capri Theatre at Goodwood on Friday, 19th August, 2016 at 6.30 pm.
To celebrate this special Australian release actor Geoffrey Rush, director Scott Hicks and producer Jane Scott will participate in a filmmaker Q & A. What is also bound to be of great interest to movie buffs, budding screenwriters and film makers will be the screening of 'behind the scenes' documentaries, made during the production.
In 1996, SHINE led the way winning nine AFI Awards. In 1997, SHINE really did shine internationally, scoring seven Oscar nominations and nine BAFTA nominations along with several other international awards.
Geoffrey Rush played as David Helfgott as an adult, and Noah Taylor played the adolescent David, both giving best the performances of their careers. Geoffrey Rush won an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Actor.
Produced by Jane Scott and directed by Scott Hicks, SHINE is story rich in music and emotion that tells the true story of pianist David Helfgott and his volatile relationship with his father, his mental breakdown and his eventual redemption through the love and support of his wife, Gillian. The series of screenings to be held Australia wide, celebrates the incredible success story of SHINE and the brilliant team work over a ten year period that brought the story to the screen.
