In its seventh consecutive year, the Salvation Army's Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal aims to deliver real, tangible assistance to some of Perth's most disadvantaged.

The annual Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal is a call-out to the Perth community to donate warm items, including coats, jackets, jumpers, baby and children's clothing, new blankets or doonas, for less fortunate individuals and families.

Lead actors from Ghost the Musical, Jemma Rix (starring as Molly) and Rob Mills (starring as Sam) joined Warren Palmer, from the Salvation Army, to launch the Appeal at Karrinyup Shopping Centre.



Jemma Rix said, "Ghost is proud to support The Salvation Army's appeal. We would love the people of Perth to give generously and show loving kindness to those in need this winter."

Recent statistics reveal staggering results on how people are entrenched in poverty across Australia, and suffer more than ever in the winter months. Key statistics indicate that:
· 57% have gone without meals,
· 59% had either delayed or been unable to pay a utility bill,
· 67% of respondents experienced extreme housing stress, paying more than 50% of their income for accommodation,
·60% of children went without five or more essential items in life.

Donations can be dropped off at Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the collection box located in the Centre Court daily from Tuesday 7 June to Sunday 3 July 2016;
10 am to l5pm Monday-Saturday
10 am to 7 pm Thursday
12 pm to 4 lpm Sunday

Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Marketing Manager, Claire Ridley says "By simply donating one warm item to the Shed Your Winter Coat Appeal, you will be making a big difference to those in desperate need during the tougher winter months. Our previous appeals have been a great success, and this year we're hoping to make it the biggest one yet. We're aiming to raise over 3,000 articles of warm clothing, as well as $4,000 in donations for The Salvation Army."
