The
Sciencentre (
corner of Grey and Melbourne Streets, South Bank) is one museum where the 'look but don't touch' rule does not apply. Participants are encouraged to push, pull, spin and bang their way through more than 100 interactive activities that are split up into three galleries.
The human body is dissected in Body Zone, where participants can discover the biology and anatomy of the body, challenge themselves with fitness tests, explore the five senses and bend the mind with cunning brain teasers and optical illusions.
Action Station explores every day science and how things work. Power a battery with your own energy, make a disc levitate using magnets, tackle Newton's cradle and take part in other exciting experiments that explain the concepts of electricity, light, sound, mirrors, magnets and machinery.
And our planet goes under the microscope at Earth Space, an exhibit that examines the inside and outside of Earth. The four themed stations each inspect a different element; water, earth, fire and air.
Until 12 December 2010, a fourth gallery, the Imagination Centre, will provide hands on activities and experiments that explore the concept of gears and pulleys.
Learning comes alive in this museum where there are no visitors, only participants. With ever changing content and regular new exhibits, you might like to consider purchasing a Mindbenders pass; for only $24 for an adult or $20 for a child, you will have unlimited access over a twelve month period.
