Sun, sand and plentiful play equipment make for a fun combination at Scarborough Beach playground. There is a large rock climbing wall and set of built-in drums for variety, as well as all the usual slides and swings.
The playground is under shade sails although there are gaps in the coverage. One little explorer sported a fetching combination of sun hat and tiara on our recent visit.
Sun-smart princess
The playground - which is unfenced - has a lovely view of the water and benefits from the sea breeze. There are public toilets, barbeques and picnic tables nearby, as well as a row of restaurants across the road for coffee and/or snacks.
A pram-friendly walking track stretches along the Scarborough dunes if you feel like getting a little exercise on your outing.
Keep an eye out for snakes
Before our playground session, we visited
Café Del Pescatore across the road for breakfast. The coffee was good, service unexceptional and breakfasts well-cooked - but let down by toast made from mediocre bread.

The restaurant, at 1 Manning St, Scarborough, is also open for
lunch and dinners, attracting
mixed reviews online.
