After hearing about Sangria Sundays at Peasant Restaurant , at the Barracks, I made time with a friend for an overdue catch-up, and to try some sangria and tapas from the Spanish BBQ.

We arrived just after 3pm, and were disappointed to find that the kitchen was on afternoon siesta. Peasant Restaurant offers a choice between white wine and red wine sangria , so I selected the red wine variety to enjoy. My friend has taken January off from alcohol, but he was compelled to smell the bouquet, and I found the taste fruity, well-balanced and just generally divine.

We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon chat, with just the right amount of attention from the staff, and were offered a menu about 5pm when the kitchen opened again. Although we couldn't stay for too much longer, my friend recommended the bread, with roast garlic and olive oil, which was amazing. Half a head of garlic roasted until the cloves were ready to be spread onto the bread, which was lightly drizzled with olive oil. After enjoying a generous amount of sangria, this was just the thing to fill the gap in my stomach.

Overall, I'll come back for Sangria Sunday, taking note to arrive earlier, or after 5pm, to make sure I can take advantage of the tapas menu. I'm also very tempted to come back another night, to enjoy the weeknight specials (below).
