The ambiance of the salt therapy room
I've only just discovered salt rooms. Salt rooms you might ask? They are rooms filled with salt and you pay to sit in them for therapeutic purposes. There is a great place in Frankston that looks like a alternative therapy place that is just that. Salts of the Earth is a Salt Therapy and Wellbeing Centre.

Set up by an Irishman, who imports the Pharmaceutical Salt from New Zealand, there are two therapy rooms with walls and ceilings covered in salt, as well as finely ground salt circulated through the air via the dry saline generator (Halogenerator). This process of creating what is called a Halotherapy chamber or an above ground version of one, is a form of a negative ion environment. Negative ions actually create positive energy and healing that is achieved generally by being close to nature.

When the lights dim, the aquarium adds a gentle calm.

The history of the therapeutic salt rooms goes back to a group of Polish salt miners. People began to notice that the salt miners were displaying exceedingly good health. It was discovered that the salt they were mining was actually having a healing effect on them and people with repository and other illnesses were often taken down the salt mines to improve their condition. Thus, the use of therapeutic salt rooms began.

At the Salt of the Earth Therapy and Wellbing Centre in Frankston, there are two main Therapy Rooms. One room has 10 comfortable seats and is dimmed during a session. The salt, is pumped through the room with Allergenic filtered air. The other is a room where children can sit or play. It is a great space for a special play group outing or experience and worth asking the staff about.

A little research will show you that the salts are renown for their effect on the respiratory system and are a natural form of "antihistamine, are anti-viral, and anti bacterial", as well as great for overall wellbeing.

Before entering one of the salt rooms, you are given a pair of washable shoe covers to stop the spread of anything that may have travelled in with you. You can feel the change in the air the moment you enter the room and the effects long after.

A session lasts 45 minutes and you may pay per session or in therapy packages which can save you money. There are 3 Salt of the Earth locations in Victoria and one located in Wagga Wagga, NSW.

It is a worthwhile experience for all. If you have an ailment, you might find its therapeutic value even greater. Salts of the Earth is also home to other alternative healing methods, massage, Kinesiology, Chinese cupping and more.

A great range of Himalayan salt lamps and products are also stocked.
