Spring time is a festive time here in Perth with innumerable cool community events happening all around the city. To celebrate Community Safety Month, as well as to educate the wider community about ways to stay safe and sound, on Saturday October 17th, the City of Stirling's Community Safety Team will be hosting a small but very special event at Karrinyup Shopping Centre in the Library Forecourt.

This vibrant community fair will include a host of exciting things to see and do for people of all ages, with the focus being on how to be safety-conscious in our daily lives. Various agencies, including the RAC, Royal Lifesaving Society and St John's Ambulance, will be participating on the big day, with most providing handy information on a wide range of topics. Residents will also be encouraged to share their thoughts on safety-related issues.

Apart from all the helpful hints, which will be mostly of interest to the grown-ups, there will also be loads to see and do for children of all ages. Several mascots and other super-heroes will be making an appearance – a definite hit with the youngsters – while parents will definitely want to make the most of some great photo opportunities. A special highlight will be a live show by Constable Care at the Shopping Centre court at 11.00am.

Other fun stuff for youngsters will be an animal petting farm, face-painting and craft activities, with a focus on safety. Everyday life presents a wide variety of potential hazards, and while we don't want to scare children, it's important that they're aware of these and know how to minimise the risks. Community events such as these are a playful way to present this message to children, as they can learn so much – without even realising it.

The Safer Stirling Community Safety Month Event will take place on Saturday October 17th from 9.00am until 2.00pm, at the Karrinyup Shopping Centre (Library Forecourt). It's totally free of charge, making it an extremely affordable way to entertain the kids. Most importantly, though, this event instructs all of us about how to be safety-conscious is a wide range of common life situations – for the wellbeing of not only ourselves, but also our families and the wider community.
