Rusticana is the botanical name for horseradish, so no great surprise that Rusticana Wines is the co-tenant with Newmans Horseradish on the Meekins Bremer-side farm on Lake Plains Road at Langhorne Creek.

A Rusticana Durif , some horseradish, and all you need is some roast beef and potatoes to seal the deal.

The elevated cellar door can cater for small groups, including tasting plates of local products on Red Gum benches, overlooking the horseradish and vines and the tree lined Bremer River a few metres away.

The variety of goods available is extensive and unique (see the WN article on Newmans Horseradish last month).

Hosts Ann and Brian make everyone feel welcome, and offer good advice on where to venture next in this hidden gem of wine tasting, Langhorne Creek. They are associated with such luminaries as John Glaetzer, Dennis and Zonda Elliot of Karanto Wines, and the Beach Road team from McLaren Vale.

One year they had the cheek to win best Durif at the Rutherglen Show. The Victorians were unimpressed.

They are famous for varieties made famous in other districts such as Durif, and Zinfandel more common to California. The range also includes Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Sparkling Durif and Rose.
