As the 2016 Adelaide Fringe Draws closer, Adelaide locals and interstate visitors alike, begin planning their 'Mad March' festivities (although it actually all starts in February!). Shows and Fringe Venues are the talk of the town; as [to-be] audiences get ready to leave behind the everyday & the mundane and escape into a world of Artistic expression.

One of the most anticipated Fringe Venues for 2016 is the 'Royal Croquet Club'. Since the debut of the event at the 2014 Adelaide Fringe, The Royal Croquet Club has gone from strength to strength. Growing so much in popularity, this [Adelaide] home grown event has set up pop-up pitches interstate, in Melbourne, Brisbane and soon Sydney & Perth. The prominent Melbourne events website 'Time Out Melbourne' called the Royal Croquet Club-"Adelaide's best export".

2016 sees the Royal Croquet Club returning home for another round. The RCC is yet to disappoint, with the combination of incredible Fringe acts, delicious food, drinks, culture and of course croquet! This year will be no different - except that it will be! The RCC have teased us with the promise that this year, the event will be undergoing a makeover and they will be giving us a fit out that we wouldn't be expecting! To quote "… it's going to be bigger and bolder than ever before."-RCC Website.

The RCC will play host to a "..World-class program of entertainment.."-RCC Website. This year will see the event act as the platform for 60 shows, over 150 artists with genres including comedy, circus, theatre, music, illusion and kids shows - something for everyone. The official program is now available on the RCC website and tickets are now on sale.

The Royal Croquet Club will have 6 performance venues within its grounds, each as unique and creative as the next. Four venues of which I know of are as follow:

THE MENAGERIE

The Menagerie will play stage to circus, theatre, music puppetry and cabaret acts. A dome shaped venue seating 300 audience members. The contemporary semi-round venue includes an internal bar and air-conditioning.

THE PARLOUR

The Parlour was originally developed in early 2015, in a design collaboration with Yakusan. A venue which needs to be seen, to be believed. Dare I say opium-den meets wonderland - It will leave you 'curiouser and curiouser'. A velvet and wooden interior add to an exotic and gothic-luxe atmosphere, fit for a Victorian circus. The Parlour will seat 70 audience members and has an internal bar/service area.

UKIYO

Ukiyo is a Japanese word meaning 'The Floating World'. Ukiyo refers the urban lifestyle, especially the pleasure-seeking aspects, of Edo-period Japan (1600–1867)-Wikipedia. It was the beginning of a new world where, common people could enjoy theatre, music, dance, culture and some 'taboo' pleasures. Ukiyo has been the inspiration for much of Japans greatest art. The floating world is represented here, through the beautiful handmade wooden venue, which has been designed by 'Bamboozled Productions'. Seating 220 audience members in an air-conditioned environment.

THE PANAMA CLUB

The Panama Club will play stage to award winning shows from across the country and around the world. The circus venue seats 600 audience members and will change stage configurations to suit the various shows. The Panama Club also holds an internal bar and air-conditioning.

There is good news for families this year, as the RCC have extended their day time opening hours over the weekends, to accommodate their family friendly programs. The RCC will be playing host to many kids shows including 'The Adventures of Broer and Zus ', '80's KIDS DISCO' , 'Brat Kids Carnival', 'Grumpy Pants' and the musical genius of 'The Vintage Quartestra Plays Your Favourite 19th Century Cartoon Themes'.
There will also be plenty of free, family friendly activities, from camel rides to face painting and of course, croquet!

Let's not forget that the RCC will be home to some of Adelaide's best foodie vendors - dinner and show anyone? Exact details of the 2016 food vendors will be released closer to the event date, but we have been told to expect various world flavours such as South American, Asian and sweet treats. And of-course, one will be able to enjoy of spot of Pimms.

FYI

Entry to the RCC is free, except for a $5 entry fee after 7pm on Friday and Saturday

There will be an ATM onsite, plus the bars will accept cards - but there is no cash out at the bars.

You can enter the RCC from Reconciliation Plaza, Victoria Square.

The Dress code is neat casual and shoes must be worn at all times
