I'm such a fan of this hidden little gem in the middle of the CBD. Normally I go for brunch on a Saturday and get the savoury mince which is excellent. I always tend to leave with a little jar of homemade chutney or jam, just to extend the loveliness at home. But savoury mince and all things fruit punch will have to wait for another review - this is all about the Room with Roses Deluxe High Tea experience.

My sister and I booked in to try the high tea after enviously looking at tea trays on other tables and were delighted with the results.

Now, the scones are more like a cube of tall cake rather than how one normally envisions a scone. Also, ginger is not really my favourite flavour in baked cakey goods so I wasn't really a fan of the very gingery scone/cake-cube thing but if you're up for some interesting adventure scones, these are for you. I did like the plain scone however and the raspberry jam is homemade and so, so wonderful (yes, I bought a jar to take home).

Refreshingly, the savoury snackie things weren't just limited to ribbon sandwiches. There were a couple of savoury tartlets and a little corn cake which was lovely. Great variety also extended to the top layer of sweetie treaties (unfortunately my photo skills did not capture the top layer). My favourite was a lemon curd tart that helped cut with zesty freshness the other sugary sweet flavours and finished off the tray beautifully. Also, homemade curd, how can you go wrong?

Room with Roses is an overall winner with consistent quality (high tea or any other occasion) and winning character driven by the lovely Vicki, an ever present welcoming figure to guests.

If your Nan/Gran/Great Aunt Bess is in town, definitely take her for the high tea at Room with Roses. It's away from the bustle of the Mall and the homemade-ness will win you brownie points for sure.
