You find yourself sitting at the computer, looking at Google Maps and other search engines for a rooftop bar to go to in the Melbourne CBD. So many results are shown, and the hard part is attempting to choose one.
Well, allow me to help you alleviate that conundrum. Nestled away in Hardware Lane, right by the well known Collins Street is
Campari House; a four-level nighttime delight.
Campari House Entrance
On the ground level you have an Italian restaurant for wining and dining. If you're looking at holding an event, level one caters for those looking to book a venue. Level two is the stylish and sophisticated cocktail lounge. However, the cherry-on-top of Campari House is their rooftop bar, which should be on the agenda for locals and travellers alike.
The building was established in 1968. The building has been refurbished; however, they have chosen to amalgamate some of the original fittings and furnishings, giving this establishment an old-world, yet, contemporary charm.
Welcome Board
Take some time ascending the staircase, as this gives you a chance to soak in the real feel of this place as you take in the view of the artwork which runs throughout the entire staircase. Additional to the artwork are the nice trinkets placed around, each telling their own story.
Upon reaching the rooftop, you find yourself in a welcoming environment of tables, barrels and benches. It's also a lively environment to find yourself a part of as you soak in the ambience. During the colder months, they close the roof off with a marquee and turn on the heater, providing patrons with a warm and cosy environment. If it's still not warm enough for you, you are encouraged to approach the friendly staff as they have blankets at their disposal to loan out for that extra bit of warmth. On the flipside, during the warmer months, the marquee comes off so that you can soak up the sun and surround yourself with a slice of Melbourne's skyline.
On a final note, Campari House's rooftop bar claims on their website that they have some of Melbourne's best pizzas. In my mind, the rooftop warrants a visit just for the purpose of putting their claim to the test. After tasting two of their pizzas on the menu, also noting that their prices are much the same as other restaurants, I would have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
Campari House, I tip my hat to you, kudos on providing a great place to experience.
