"I can't believe it! I've never seen so many books in all my life! It's wonderful!" So says Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and such was my feeling on entering this store.



Robert Cornwall Stamps and Coins, which trades as R.M.C. Stamps, is hidden behind an unassuming storefront on Mount Alexander Road. Specialising in (unsurprisingly) stamps and coins, which are displayed in a cabinet by the register. I prefer to go there to trawl the immense piles of secondhand books, which are layered along the walls three stacks deep and sometimes six foot high.



The store is reasonably organised by genre and alphabet, and has an extra small room which is overwhelmingly mauve - evidently the romance section. Prices start from about $2.50 and go right up, depending on the quality and rarity of the book.



R.M.C. Stamps is open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, 9:30 to 5 pm Saturday and noon to 4pm Sundays.
