Nestled in an unremarkable shopping square in Noosaville is the Riverfront Indian Curry and Continental Café. It's possibly the last hidden gem of Noosa.

To say that Riverfront Indian Curry and Continental is unassuming is a massive understatement. Functioning mainly as a milk bar, the place lets its foodie goodness be known by signs out the front advertising $10 breakfasts and 'Today Only' specials (hint: they'll be there tomorrow as well). It looks about as far from a gem as a rock sitting at a truck stop.

It was the 'Today Only' curry special that got me in the end. After five days, I had to do it. I got the vindaloo and a veggie curry.

Result: non-fancy, hearty, just-plain-good Indian food.

Often good basic food is described as just like someone's mum used to make. I'm fairly sure that in this instance someone's mum did make it. (The server calling for his mum gave me a clue.) It tasted that way, too: basic but tasty. Good ingredients were the base and an evident lifetime's experience in making curries was the finishing touch.

Noosa is full of restaurants loudly declaring themselves to be fantastic. Despite having a name that takes a full 30 seconds to say, this café is quiet about its qualities. If you're in Noosa and are hankering after a good, basic meal, don't overlook it.
