Enjoy breakfast on the Goodwill Bridge as the start of
RiverSunday on Sunday 13 September. RiverSunday will celebrate the winding stretch of water that defines our city and showcase the artistic talents of Brisbane's school children and is a
Brisbane Festival event.
The day kicks off with the
Sunsuper RiverBBQ at 9am on the Goodwill Bridge, where you can enjoy breakfast sitting at a table decorated with a 120m long table cloth made by local children. Radio station
B105 will be broadcasting live and the kids can be entertained with music and performances from
The Mighty Buzzniks.
After breakfast, wander across the Goodwill Bridge into
South Bank Parklands where there is plenty occurring to keep all the family entertained. Take in the
Steve Parish Exhibition of South-East Queensland wildlife photography and the artist will be on hand at Riverside Green for a book signing session. Keen photographers can also enter the
Click Brisbane Festival Photography Competition for the chance to win a prize pack featuring Steve Parish Publishing books, photographic equipment and the opportunity for a wildlife photography workshop.
Along with art, the environment is a strong theme of RiverSunday. The
Goa Billboards Project asked 12 Brisbane schools to design billboards spreading the message of reducing carbon footprints. The results can be seen at the Riverside Green together a multimedia display explaining the design choices. Children's views of the environment are also on show with
RiverViews, 4 giant frames decorated with messages about the environment will be erected on Clem Jones Promenade.
The
Bottle Tree installation on Clem Jones Promenade has been designed as a reflection of the impact that discarded plastic bottles have on our natural landscape.
If the thoughts of the next generation make you think about how you can reduce your carbon footprint,
The Green Heart CitySmart Neighbourhood Fair at South Bank's Cultural Forecourt has the answers.
Rounding out RiverSunday is a
Kitchen Garden cooking demonstration from Stephanie Alexander assisted by Brisbane school students.
Undercover parking is available at South Bank Parklands;
public transport options include bus, train and City Cat.
