Sometimes you have to work hard if you want to be in possession of the hottest ticket in old London town. You have to know in advance that something's happening and you have to know when tickets will go on sale. And then be in that queue on the first day they start selling seats. Yes, it takes patience, perseverance and discipline... But the hottest ticket in town is usually worth it. And in this case you're going to want to kiss my feet for telling you about this one if it hadn't come onto your radar yet:
Sam Mendes is going to be directing
Kevin Spacey as Richard III at the
Old Vic.
Let me give you a moment to still your beating heart.

Yes, the team that brought you the dark depths of Oscar winning
'American Beauty' is reuniting for the first time creatively since, to bring you one of Shakespeare's most menaced and menacing kings. Mendes says that Spacey, currently the Artistic Director of the Old Vic, was born to play Richard...and it's certainly true that one of Spacey's best known rolls in
'The Usual Suspects' saw him playing a character not unlike Richard physically, or emotionally... And all signs suggest that this won't just be the hottest ticket in town, but will also be something to remember for a long. long time to come.
"Do you remember 2011, King William dear heart?"
"Oh yes sweet Kate, wasn't that the year of Kevin Spacey's Richard III?"
"Well, that and our wedding!"This production of Richard III will be the final play staged by The Bridge Project, a trans-Atlantic venture coined in part by Spacey and Mendes, to bring some of the best acting talent in the US and the UK together on the same global stages. And London's getting the world premiere, Spacey will first don Richard's crooked mantle on the 18th of June and play until the 11th of September before opening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Harvey theatre in New York on the 10th of January 2012.
Most importantly though, tickets go on sale from the Old Vic on the 31st of January. So get prepared people.
A ticket, a ticket, my kingdom for a ticket'...
