"I was looking for a $5 dollar dress to go with my $500 pair of Manolo Blahnik"
Carrie Bradshaw.
In one of my favourite episodes of
Sex and the City, Carrie is walking towards the vintage shop area of Soho, New York, as her voice narrates these words.
Carrie was styled by Patricia Fields and while the show is famous for the designer dresses and shoes, the real style probably came from Patricia's five assistants scrummaging through second hand stores to find the hair clip or clutch bag that would make the look unique.
Vintage shopping can be fun and free from credit card guilt.
Here's a rundown on some of Adelaide's best Vintage stores.
The CBD
Antique Market 32 Grote St
This actually more of a furniture and homeware antique dealer but they also have amazing jewellery. Prices are often (but not always) over $100, these are collectable and statement pieces.
Red Ruby Vintage – 14 Peel St.
Being 'recycled' this means the clothes are cleaned, repaired and sometime reinvented .
Hero Vintage - 5 Ebenezor Place
Hand-picked vintage dresses ranging from the 1930s to 1980s as well as a hats, bags, gloves, shoes and jewellery
Goodwill – Hindley St
Why not got direct to the source. A lot of the other stores pick through shops like Goodwill and select the cool stuff to resell. With a bit of patience you can find forgotten gems.
Just South of the ParklandsGoodwood Road has always been a great place for anything a bit Retro, there are other eco friendly and fairtrade businesses to meander through while you are there.
Clarence Park Bazaar- 306 Goodwood Road
This is really ecliptic with also sorts of goodies, from Cowboy boots to hippy dresses. A lot of fun to spend time trying on things here.

CP Bazaar
Check out their
website for me.
Other recommended Vintage Stores
El Flamingo - Magil Road, hand-picked and cool items (also recommended for its coffee).
