The soap art classes at Renascent College in Warrandyte are fantastic from my own personal experience. Picture this, you are situated only moments away from the Yarra River, in a quiet and peaceful sanctuary surrounded by trees and nature, and yet engaging in an activity with a caring and experienced teacher, learning how to make beautiful soaps which make great gifts, and are just as great to use as well as sell at markets or online through your own soap making business. The choice is absolutely yours. It is all done in 2-3 hours per class level, and you will feel proud of your efforts. One minute you are a complete beginner, and the next minute you are a soap making master.

Both the basic and advanced classes are terrific, and it was a real joy to also watch the children learn how to make beautiful soaps in particular, and they managed to do it all so well. There are different dyes you can use, and Renascent stock these as well. There is also a range of beautiful fragrances, and this is where you have full permission to let your creativity run wild. A word of warning, do not use palm oil in your soap bases as it is harsh on your skin, and none of the Renascent soap bases contain palm oil.

The fragrances available through Renascent, of which you have an abundance of choice to use in both the beginners and private classes are safe and full of beautiful, strong and pleasant aromas. You can choose fragrances such as passionfruit, coffee and green tea in addition to pure essential oils. If you choose to use essential oils in your soap base, make sure they are authentic and not the cheap oils purchased from some markets and discount shops. Or, if you have a bottle of your favourite fragrance at home, it is okay to use that as well.

Your costs of making these soaps are so low, you're looking at around 50c-$2 per soap bar. Considering that similar soaps sell for at least $30, up to $200 from souvenir shops and top department stores, making your own soaps are not only cost effective but they make beautiful and memorable Christmas and birthday presents. Plus there is there is the benefits of owning a profitable and fun creative business if you wish to go down this avenue, and many of Lesley's graduates are armed with the knowledge, skills and confidence in order to do well in the soap making business from the onset.

Soap art is not messy at all. No stress, if a bit of melted soap base goes on your carpet, clothes or shoes, or even on you, it is all good - the base can easily be peeled off in moments, and there is never any wastage of soap base as the soap can simply be re-melted to create more soaps. Lesley has a range of beautiful moulds, and it is so easy to create multiple coloured soaps (and soaps with beautiful objects, as per the dolphin and crystal soap pictures of soaps I made recently) of which you will discover and learn how to make in the advanced soap making course at Renascent.

Really fun, and you can also add clay, shimmers and glitters to your soap base prior to pouring your melt into one of the beautiful moulds, that you can purchase from Renascent and/or from supermarkets and department stores. And did I also mention goats milk? That's right goats milk soaps are also easy to make through this soap art experience with Lesley and Renascent College. You can even use the same moulds that you use to make chocolate - however do not mix them up.

Soap art with Lesley is heaps of fun, and time really does fly during the workshops. Even for those of you who do not see yourselves as creative, you will be pleasantly surprised and amazed of how much you can actually achieve through soap art at Renascent, and have so much fun for a change in the process.

Lesley is able to run private classes if you want to do this with your mates; a minimum of four people are required to make a booking for a private class to be really worth it. Otherwise, check out Renascent's website for further information on the soap classes and when they will be held.

Let your imagination run wild. It is so much fun, and taking your next bath or shower using your own creation is so much (fun) again and oh so liberating. Once again, you will be really amazed at what you will able to achieve through learning how to pour and make your own soaps in a short but awesome period of time.

You will never want to buy a bar of soap again, and no different to cooking you are in charge and in control of your soaps, which makes it even better for your skin and for your wallet after the costs of supplies and materials are taken into consideration.
