Lapidary is the art of turning rough gems and other minerals into decorative pieces including carvings, paperweights and jewellery. On the weekend of 1 and 2 May, Redcliffe will be a lapidarist and jewellery lover's heaven with the hosting of the Redcliffe Peninsula Lapidary Club's
38th Annual Gem, Jewellery and Mineral Show.
Held at Clontarf Beach State High School, the show will feature the work of members of the Redcliffe Peninsula Lapidary Club and includes the chance to see opals, sapphires, pearls and crystals. Not to be forgotten is the jewellery that has been designed with these raw materials.
A variety of displays and sale stalls from stallholders and gem dealers will be set up both in the school hall and on the school's oval. Kids can have their face painted and try their luck searching for gems in a working model mine. Free door prizes and a raffle are other attractions of the show.
The 38th Annual Gem Jewellery and Mineral Show is open between 9am and 4pm on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 May 2010. Entry costs $3 for adults and $0.50 for children aged 5 – 16 years. Parking is available in either Isobel or King Streets, Clontarf and the show is held in the Clontarf Beach State High School Hall. A bus connection at Sandgate or Petrie Train Stations is the
public transport option for attending this event. Snacks and drinks will be available on site but if you'd like to make a day of it, there's plenty of
cafes, restaurants and picnic spots locally.
