Kurt Perschke, born in Chicago, is an artist who works in sculpture, video, collage and public space. He currently works and lives in New York City.
His most acclaimed work, for which he received a National Award, is called the Redball Project. This project consists of placing a big red ball in a public space.
Appearing in entrances, beneath bridges, in alleyways and sidewalks and even bus shelters, the Redball has been seen by a lot of people.
Travelling around the world in major cities such as Barcelona, St Louis, Portland, Sydney, Chicago and Toronto, the Redball Project is now coming to Perth.
Kurt Perschke's aim with the Redball Project is to interact with the public and by placing this bouncy, colourful and fascinating red ball in unexpected places, people often stop and engage with the Redball installation.
Kurt Perschke says that the experience seems to be about the ball itself as an object, but the true power of the project is what it can create for those who experience it.
As the Redball travels the world, people have approached him, suggesting other places it could be placed.
"
The invitation to engage, to collectively imagine, is the true essence of the Redball Project. The larger arc of the project is how each city responds to that invitation and, over time, what the developing story reveals about our individual and cultural imagination."
The Redball will be transforming Perth city into an unexpected work of art. Offering many possibilities, this project will pop up in 15 different locations in Perth.
Keep your eyes open so you can photograph it, touch or even bounce against it.
