Red Galangal in Rouse Hill is a nice little Thai restaurant that offers the standard Thai fare as well as some unique dishes that I haven't seen in other Thai restaurants. From the moment we walked through the doors the delicious aroma of the dishes stimulated our appetites and we knew just from the smell that the food was going to be great. The atmosphere was certainly very welcoming, with their ornate gold table decorations and the beautiful chandeliers, soft lighting and peaceful water feature all did a great job in setting a good first impressions in our minds.

We came here as a group to dine and there are enough choices in the menu to interest us all. Most of us chose the signature dishes: Panang Lamb, Gae Pad Fig (lamb stir-fried in sun-dried fig, chilli and vegetables), Mac Moung Gai (chicken breast stir-fried in sun-dried mango slices, macadamia, chilli and vegetables), Goong Gati (prawn stir-fried with chilli jam, lime, coconut cream and vegetables) and Bhoo Nim Tod (twice-cooked soft shell crab stir-fried with vegetables and Thai spices).

The dish I chose was Gae Pad Fig and it was an interesting mix of fruity and spicy, and the presence of figs reminded me a bit of a Moroccan sweet lamb curry with a Thai twist. I also got to taste the other dishes that my companions ordered and I was not disappointed in their quality. My favourite out of the lot was the Goong Gati as the prawns were so tender and fresh and creamy due to the rich coconut sauce.

As for serving size, they were all very generously sized, and also reasonably priced. We went there on a Friday night, but it wasn't too busy, and the music was pleasant enough without being too loud so we were still able to carry on conversation comfortably. The lighting wasn't too dark or too bright either so we weren't straining to see each other. Service was quite good, although for a not-too-busy Friday night it was hard to get the waitresses' attention. Overall, it was a great experience, and highly recommended. It is very suitable for families, couples and group dining.
