Just like that, red has just replaced blue in the bike riding department in terms of hiring a suitable bike in Melbourne. Red Bike Hire at Docklands enables people to choose to hire (or even buy) a range of bikes to suit the whole family. There are city bikes, tandems and cargo bikes designed for families; Dutch style bikes where the parent rides while the children sit in a wooden box in front, taking in the views and loving the attention they get from all the passers by.

The moment I hopped on one of their red city bikes, I was (and still am) impressed. It is smooth and fast; a great quality bike which you don't need that extra energy to ride. It is easy to find the gears, and the bell is small and compact. The seats are comfortable, storage space for your valuables is quite generous and it is easy to pick up speed. You might even need to make an effort to slow down a little on windy days. The staff are fantastic. One of the staff members introduced me to the trail that follows tram route 109 to Port Melbourne; she actually rode with me for the brief distance till I found my way. This is excellent customer service. Riding to Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Albert Park and St Kilda, and then back to South Wharf with a brief ride along the Yarra from DFO South Wharf to Southgate and back, all in all took me two full hours with a couple of pit stops (for water and an ice block) along the way. Just so easy to get around; way better than the blue Melbourne Bike Share bikes. Now you know what I really mean by 'trading in blue for red.'

Red Bike Hire (beyond bike sales and hire) are planning on organising bike tours for locals and visitors to Melbourne alike covering areas such as the MCG; Federation Square, the Yarra and other areas of inner Melbourne, and are also putting themselves out there for school related excursions, leisure programs and tours. At this moment I am so happy and grateful that as a leisure and lifestyle writer I was fortunate to bike ride around Melbourne on one of Red Bike Hire's city bikes. Melbourne and bike riding are designed to go together, so why not hire a Red Bike and give it a try. Or grab the kids and rent one of their fun cargo bikes for a few hours or a day. Trust me, the Red Bike riding experience around inner Melbourne is priceless and well worth the adventure and experience.
