Event:
On Monday the 28th of March, hundreds of people queued outside independent records stores all around the world. All these individuals were there to collect a free newspaper, entitled The Universal Sigh. This special 12-page newspaper, which now fetches prices of up to $50 (US), was handed on the same day that the latest Radiohead album, The King of Limbs, was released in its physical form.

However you did not need to purchase the CD or Vinyl to obtain the newspaper, which like Compact Discs, are now arguably outdated. Yet still many turned out all over the world to receive this newspaper. In fact, Londoners were greeted by Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke and artist Dan Rickwood (aka Stanley Donwood), and it certainly was an event for Radiohead fans the world over, who all had their images appear on The Universal Sigh website.

However despite the 'buzz,' sales for physical form of the 8th Radiohead album were according to NME, only moderate in the UK. This may be due to the fact that many have already pre-ordered a special edition of the album, entitled the 'newspaper album,' through the band's website and the early release of the MP3 version of the album on 18 February, 2011.

Radiohead obviously tried to get their loyal fans to venture to independent record stores around the world to purchase their album. Furthermore the band are releasing a special 12-inch record (UK ONLY), featuring two tracks on April 16, 2011, which is internationally known as Record Store Day.

The Arctic Monkeys have also announced they will also release a 7-inch vinyl, featuring two tracks from the forthcoming album Suck It And See. Still not impressed, how about a reissue of the very first release from the now defunct White Stripes, "Let's Shake Hands" / "Look Me Over Closely." Perhaps you might want to get your hands on the re-release of the rare Nirvana EP Hormoaning? In fact there are plenty of special limited albums and EPs being released on Record Store Day - you can view the full listing here. Note some releases are regional only.

Officially founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner, this is an internationally celebrated event and besides the special limited editions being released on this day, there are also many events, such as instore appearances, acoustic performances, competitions and much more.
