Diagnosed with breast cancer and a prognosis of just 6 months to a year with conventional chemotherapy and radiation treatment; this was a crude wake-up call for Janette Murray-Wakelin. Refusing to accept the diagnosis, she decided to fight back by powering her immune system with natural nutrients and by increasing the oxygen in her blood through exercise and juicing fresh fruits and vegetables.
Originally from New Zealand Janette and her husband Alan have always had a diverse, adventurous life centered around health and wellness and has always known the value of exercise and a healthy diet. Throughout 2013, they ran 15,782km, running 43km each day in 366 days with no days off. They acquired world acclaim by setting a new World Record as the only couple over the age of 60 fuelled entirely on raw fruit and veg, wearing barefoot shoes around Australia.
This is not an event to be missed! Meeting Alan and Janette is the cherry on top. This is the couple who as raw vegans, ate up to 30 bananas a day, while munching on fresh peaches, nectarines and apricots and had up to 4 kilograms of greens, including smoothies of kale, spinach and silverbeet. Though a fit vegan before diagnosis, Janette gave up cooked food including pasta and rice and bought local and organic. Be inspired by this couple who not only helped themselves while running gruelling, unforgiving marathons in challenging weather, but raised money for four charities along the way while promoting kindness to others as well.
Janette is the author of the highly acclaimed book Raw Can Cure Cancer (now in it's 2nd edition) and her new book, Running Out of Time, based on their Run around Australia which was released in August 2014.
