When you're in a cinema, feeling tense with your heart really pumping is fine when it's a horror movie you're watching - but when it's because of some annoying toerags making noise all the way through or because someone is kicking the back of your seat, it's not so great.
And talking of seats, sometimes the amount of legroom can leave you wondering if the place was designed by a team of Oompa-Loompas; and why is it that whenever you choose that seat with no one in front, Robert Wadlow's twin comes in about a minute before the projector cranks up, leaving you having to sway to and fro for the entire screening like a hyperactive pendulum.
Well, in a few days time, Alexandra Palace will play host to the RAC's first ever
drive-in movie night. If you've ever fancied watching a movie from the comfort of your own car, in a seat which you can recline, with people who you know and like, and with the stars twinkling prettily in the night sky (hopefully), then here is your chance.
Three nights, three great movies: on Thursday it's
Transformers (12A); Friday features
Dirty Dancing (12A); and on Saturday it's the 1969 version of
The Italian Job (PG).
A ticket permits one car (yes, car means "car", not "mini-bus" or "HGV") and includes two boxes of popcorn and two drinks. You should be parked up by 8.30pm (gates open at 7pm), with the film starting at around 9pm.
Imagine, a movie under the moonlight in your own motor – and no one endlessly tapping the back of your seat.
