I recently discovered the quaint town of Dubbo. A city serving a large regional population, it is well known to being home to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo, an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike. Nearby attractions include the Western Plains Cultural Centre showcasing Dubbo's history with free entry; or step into the shoes of a 19th century prisoner at Dubbo Gaol; or enliven the senses at the Dubbo Regional Botanic Garden.

Dubbo has some beautiful examples of Victorian civil architecture including the Courthouse (1887) and the railway station (1881). Ben Furney Flour Mills located at the back of the railway radiates a deep sense of history especially on discovering that it was founded on the back of the stockfeed industry back in 1964 with 5 generations of family being involved.

I recently stayed at Quest, a modern four storey building with a free carpark underneath and an internal lift which helps with the trips back and forth with kids and luggage. Trekking inside to the front desk, I wasn't disappointed. The staff added a five star touch to this well located hotel, quiet but right in the middle of town with complimentary wifi and chocolates. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment and were pleasantly surprised by the large rooms with good ceiling heights, dining table, lounge, well catered kitchen, large bathrooms and firm beds. You can even do your own laundry no matter what room choice which is one less chore when you get home.

Great restaurants, supermarkets, a 25 metre indoor pool, clubs, restaurants and shops are all within a short walking distance. However I was craving good old Chinese takeaway and I wasn't disappointed with my takeaway portions from The Golden Dragon. If you are staying in Dubbo consider the Quest or you might regret your choice!

Pros: The rooms are all fantastic but only some have balconies. If you want a balcony make sure you request

Cons: Noisy fridge
