Pyramid Rock Festival

Home > Things to do in Melbourne > Music
Event: 29/12/2009
Picture a scenic island. Picture clear skies and balmy breeze. Picture New Year's eve. Picture rock music bands. Combine them together, and you have the annual Pyramid Rock Festival on the southern coast of Phillip Island, around 140 km from Melbourne.

Over 55 bands from across the globe will descend on a picturesque farmland thither from December 29, 2009 to January 1, 2010 to cast their spell over rock buffs. From Aussie dynamites Grinspoon to Scottish rock Vikings Biffy Clyro; from the legendary Detroit songster Amp Fiddler to Brisbane's hard rockers The Butterfly Effect will all be there.

To give you a sneak peek into the line-up of artists, I could mention a few: UK alternative rockers The Boxer Rebellion, The Cat Empire, Cat Power, Ugly Duckling, Baddies, Clare Bowditch, Bluejuice, Funkoars and Aussie rockers like Faker, Architecture in Helsinki, British India, Van She among many others. For the complete list click here.

Over 15 hours of music a day (shows start at 10am and go on till 2am) will keep you grooving all the time. For their show, Empire Of The Sun vocalist Luke Steele says, "The show is going to be epic, full of colours, dinosaur-teeth chomping at the valleys of future."

Limited day passes and camping tickets are also available at selected independent outlets: Corner Hotel Box Office - Richmond, Polyester Records - Fitzroy & City stores, Greville Records - Prahran, Island Surfboards - Cowes, Leading Edge Music - Pakenham & Wonthaggi, Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre - Newhaven.

Shuttle buses will operate around the Island from the temporary car park to the venue. There will be special signage for camping patrons to direct them to the site. Food Court and Central Park catering, offering a wide range of flavours, will operate to satiate your hunger pangs.

The Pyramid festival is devoted to keeping the surroundings clean and prevent adverse impact to the environment. To do your bit, go through their entire list of tips and incentives.

The fest aside, there is much to explore and admire on Phillip Island. The world famous Penguin Parade is as much a treat for the eyes as is the coastline with great beaches and surf.
