is a new community market with an environmental focus held bi-monthly in Prospect. Organised by the Prospect Local Environmental Group with the help of local chef and personality Rosa Matto, the eco markets are being held alfresco in the shady Vine Street Plaza, and under cover in the adjoining Prospect Town Hall.

Prospect Local Environment Group (PLEG) is keen to encourage the community to be environmentally aware, focusing on sustainable living and actively reusing and recycling resources. They support food exchanges, community gardens and local trading as ways to help achieve those goals. The encourages upcycling and recycling of household goods, and also provides an outlet for creative makers to sell their works at market stalls.

PLEG were overwhelmed by the number of people who wanted to operate market stalls at the eco markets, and the quality of the products being offered. Many of the market stalls will be offering handmade artisan products that will be perfect as gifts. Expect to see beautiful handcrafted jewellery, environmentally friendly fashion goods and accessories, unusual bric-a-brac, art and craft ideas, homewares, surplus household items, vintage goods and retro fashions.

Of course market stall operators will change occasionally, but you can expect to see Prospect Community Garden selling potted herbs for your garden, plants to add some colour, and home made fruit preserves. Prospect Knitty Gritty Group will offer their knitware with love, Veggie Paws and their tempting doggie treats. Natural soy home poured candles from Melted Moments, or handmade jewellery from Karen Lucasson and Queen Mab all will make great presents for your loved ones.

Other market stalls are offering handmade and upcycled gifts, vintage jewellery, top quality antiques and collectables , heirloom silver, natural skin care products and second-hand clothing. All sellers at the market are carefully screened for their eco credentials to support Prospect Local Environment Group's sustainable living objectives.

With so many market stalls for you to browse at the , you can be sure that there will be some tasty food and drinks available too. I'll be trying one of Tinny's Breakfast Tacos three menu options, tacos made from egg, potato, tomato salsa, cheese and corn chips in a soft tortilla shell, with a choice of bacon, sausage or extra potato as fillings. Vine Street Plaza has already shown that it's a popular community space, and the perfect spot to enjoy some brunch as you people watch or chat to the locals.

These environmentally friendly free markets in Adelaide are going to be very popular with families, so PLEG has sensibly organised fun things to do for kids to keep everyone happy. Children can grab a free showbag while free busker performances entertain the whole family. A mystery lucky dip is always attention-grabbing fun for kids, and just watch them dance along to music buskers, ukulele duo Jan and Ian.

There are also plenty of free activities for kids in Vine Street Plaza including table tennis, an old piano to play, and a chalkboard. You'll find enough fun things to do at to keep everyone happy from 8am until closing time at 1pm.

Don't miss the new bi-monthly - these markets in Adelaide's inner suburbs are certainly worth a visit, and you will be helping the environment too.
